DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – The 2021 IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship season sees many changes coming that the series is excited about. “We love the idea of bringing back LMPC, I mean LMP3, to the series and having to explain the difference to fans between LMP2 and LMP3 cars,” said John Doonan, IMSA President, “You see the difference is that LMP2 is a prototype for Pro-Am lineups, while LMP3 is a prototype for Am-Pro lineups where each will only score points at 6 races, but be invited to more than that.”

We also look forward to complicating the points and also explaining why the winner of the race scored less points than the car that finished fourth, who happened to start on pole. It’s pretty simple. We think these changes will bring in more cars, especially in the GTD Sprint championship, which is another sub-championship within our GTD championship, but only races at our non-endurance races and sometimes only score points at others.”
