MIAMI, Florida – NASCAR’s first eSports invitational series race ran on Sunday afternoon with Denny Hamlin coming out as the victor. The race, which was run over 100 laps, was full of cautions and short spurts of green flag running, proving the realism iRacing provides its subscribers. “Our NASCAR physics and damage modeling is unlike anything else,” said iRacing’s marketing head Mark Tomlinson, “When you participate in an iRacing event and then look at the caution laps to that of a real NASCAR event, it’s a 1 to 1 comparison. iRacing is just as realistic as NASCAR.”
While the Fox Sports 1 TV viewing numbers of the event failed to hit true NASCAR ratings, over 1 million people, besides old boomers who do not understand links on the internet, tuned in.
