KANSAS CITY, Kansas – Elated at winning his fifth race of the season and staying alive in the championship heading into Martinsville, Denny Hamlin said he would just keep trying to win races until the end of the season whenever that might be. “I will just keep showing up until they tell me to go home. We asked NASCAR at the beginning of the year when the last race is, and we were told someone would get back to us, and right now we are all getting sort of bored,” said Hamlin, who appeared exhausted just talking about it. “Before all this stage racing and playoff stuff, the season would move really quickly and everyone could mark on their calendar when the off-season would start. Now we are all left in the dark until one day they tell everyone go home until the following February for Daytona. I will keep asking around during race weekends and see if anyone has heard any rumors, but I am not holding my breath.”

At press time, Hamlin added he had not seen his wife or kids since sometime in April but hoped they would still recognize him.
