MONZA, Italy- Responding to criticism about his performance in the Italian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel says it was just to avoid further embarrassment. “Look back to Spa where I had to let Charles through so he would not lose time to Lewis. That was not my finest moment, and today I made the decision to spin early to eliminate any chance of the team asking me to move over and avoid embarrassment,” said Vettel, one of only a handful of drivers to win four championships in F1. “Getting some penalties and being out of contention was my way out. For the rest of the race there was no chance of being told that Charles was faster, and that was a huge relief to be honest.”

Vettel added that with Singapore just two weeks away he would find a way to avoid a ‘Nelson Piquet Jr. Move’ if possible.
