SILVERSTONE, England – The FIA WEC’s Race Director, Simon Troudaeu, called for multiple drive through penalties to be cancelled during the 2019/2020 season opening race at Silverstone, upsetting many teams and ending the chances of Ferrari’s GTE class victory.  Troudaeu, however, thought he was cancelling the series, not the drive through penalties.  “I thought I was hitting the ‘cancel series’ button,” said Troudaeu, “I didn’t realize until it was too late that I was just cancelling the drive through penalties we had given to over 20 cars during the race.  It was an honest mistake.”

The idea of trying to cancel the series has reportedly been in Troudaeu’s head since the Hypercar announcement was first launched, but Sunday’s race was the first time he tried to act upon it.
