LE MANS, France – Announcing the direction of their new-for-2020 top class, FIA and ACO heads decided that “hypercar” is the right fit for prototype racing.  Instead of settling on one set of regulations for the new “hypercar” set, the ACO and FIA have said that manufacturers can build a car that fits into prototypes, prototypes with hybrids, production-based or production-based with hybrid. “Our BoP works so well with Toyota and whatever else is racing with it, that we’re confident we can allow for more variety in 2020,” said Vincent Boppensili, head of technical regulations.

Boppensili continued, “LMP1 has never been more well balanced and competitive as a single spec and were excited to allow for more headaches and manufacturers using media to give their displeasure in the BoP.”
