JEREZ, Spain – Aston Martin’s new DTM challenger was debuted to the public on Monday during a preliminary shakedown before the first official test. Some people in attendance questioned the looks of the car, based on the Vantage, and asked the chief designer about his motivations, “It was meant to be a joke to be honest. What happened was we built this thing to look goofy on purpose, planned to bring it out next month, and then reveal the joke to everyone involved. Unfortunately, we all got carried away, and before someone could stop us we entered it in DTM.”

This is not the first car to have started life as an inside joke that ended up on track. Ford unveiled their new Mustang intended for V8 Supercars earlier this year which started as a dare between designers to see how far they could take the bit before being found out.
