DAYTONA, Florida – IMSA’s Daytona Prototype International category has been a boom for the series and has started attracting the attention of many teams and manufacturers to this new top-level prototype class. In 2017 the class made its debut and single-handedly brought the historic Daytona 24 Hours event back to life. “Our requirement to run the Daytona 24 Hours is to have a top-level prototype category as the feature class, so from 2003-2016, we could not run the race,” said one IMSA official, “But thank the high Heavens for DPi, because everyone at IMSA and DIS are ecstatic about bringing North America’s premier endurance race back from the grave. It’s been a fantastic race the last two years with the third look even better.”
The Daytona 24 Hours gets underway on Saturday January 26th with the green flag waving at 2:25pm ET with the DPi class leading the field flipping LMP1 the bird.
