WILLOWS, California — On what he thought was his final lap, Spec Miata racer David Brinks was deflated to learn that he had one more hour to go in NASA’s annual 25 Hours of Thunderhill. After his crew alerted him about the final hour to go, in his already marathon 5-hour stint, Brinks said “What moron makes an endurance race 25 hours? Are they trying to be cute?!” It was at this time that the #169 Nice Cola Spec Miata went off course in turn three, where Brinks left his car never to be seen again. The team eventually finished 11th in class and 55th overall, giving the Florida-based team their best ever finish in the race.
