There are plenty of people in this world that take joy in earning a salary by being a professional driver. You know what is equally fulfilling? Spending millions of your own dollars to be a part of it. I’m serious. Who wants to be Josef Newgarden or Jimmie Johnson? What’s so so great about them? I mean, I know, Lewis Hamilton makes $55 million a year and has a couple of private jets, but so what? Spending your own money to finish sixth in a class of eight cars on your dime is why I love this sport. I get to book my own flights and wear a team shirt. You might have to let the paid drivers go through the hospitality buffet line first, but that is a small price to pay for the camaraderie. Sometimes I even get to be a part of the autograph session where only the most die hard fans know me, and those are the only people that matter. Tons of people can identify Alexander Rossi. Who wants that? Not me that’s for sure. The best part is the freedom. Every year you get to change cars or teams, and it is always your choice. Don’t even think twice about crashing a couple cars or taking out drivers that are lapping you. You’re there to have fun! How does it get any better than that? Daytona and Indianapolis are a big deal so some people, but to me there is nothing better than buying a couple rides in series that play support to SST or VSCDA. Never stop following your dreams or signing those checks for seven figures.
